1970 Pontiac Trans Am

The 1970 Pontiac Trans Am ushered in the second generation of the Trans Am; 3,196 Pontiac Trans Ams were built that year. It received a complete redesign compared to the 1969 Trans Am: the one and only first generation Trans Am. The new style was nicely shaped and would be the design used by Pontiac for the next eleven years. The new shape sported bulging curves that were more aggressive in style. This Trans Am included large front and rear spoilers, fender vents, and a rear facing scoop which directed cool air directly into the tuned port motor.
The 1970 Trans Am came standard with the 345-horsepower Ram Air 400-cid V-8. A four-speed transmission with Hurst shifter was standard; the Turbo Hydra-matic automatic was optional. Both came with 3.55:1 gears, and a 3.73:1 was available with the four-speed. The suspension on Trans Am's was upgraded to include massive torsion bars, heavy duty disc/drum brakes, and quick ratio steering.
The new Trans Am featured the famous diamond finished dash and racing steering wheel. The seats were heavily supported and the door panels featured rich stitching.
